Around 1300, construction of the castle began on the ruins of an older fortification. The main castle with its mighty residence tower is still largely intact and from its ruins the outer bailey is still recognizable. The castle today seeks to make everyday life in the late Middle Ages tangible. Visitors are soon transported back in time as they stroll between the bakehouse, smithy, donkey stable and herb garden. Hospitality is as holy here as it was 700 years ago. The bower and medieval tavern make for cosy spots to wine and dine. Some wonderful celebrations take place in the hall and people can tie the knot in the castle chapel with its registry office.
